[Songs Meant for Other Artists] Christina Milian – Ain’t No Reason

24 Mar

Song Title: “Ain’t No Reason.”

Turned Down By: Alicia Keys.

Recorded By: Christina Milian.

Written By: Alicia Keys, Taneisha Smith, Harold Lilly, Kerry “Krucial” Brothers and Rich Harrison.

“Ain’t No Reason” was originally intended for Alicia Keys sophomore album, “The Diary of Alicia Keys” [Sony Music Entertainment / J Records].

I remember reading the CD’s booklet over and over again, looking for Harrison’s name on the credits as I’ve learned from online reports that both musicians have collaborated for the project and always wondered how music would sound like if Keys and Harrison got together in the studio.

Somehow I’ve got my answer through Christina Milian’s rendition of “Ain’t No Reason,” which was featured on the original motion soundtrack “Be Cool.”

The “Dip it Low” singer later on re-enlisted the songwriting and production services of Harrison for her third album “So Amazing” [Universal Music Group / Island Def Jam Recordings]. Unfortunately, the track “Wind You Up” was only included as a bonus joint on the Japanese edition of the album.

[Songs Meant for Other Artists] Megan Rochell – The One You Need

15 Mar

Track Title: “The One You Need.”

Label: Universal Music Group / Island Def Jam Recordings.

Written By: Delisha Thomas, LaShawn Daniels and Rodney Jerkins.

Turned Down By: Christina Milian.

Recorded By: Megan Rochell.

Christina Milian received a lot of flack for turning down Rihanna’s monster hit single “S.O.S.”

In order to clarify things, she did a radio interview and revealed that the song L.A. Reid begged her to record was actually “The One You Need.” She turned it down because it did fit the sound of her then-released album “So Amazing.”

That project was fully produced by R&B and hip hop producers Marcello “Cool” Valenzano and Andre “Dre” Lyon. The only other musician she collaborated with on “So Amazing” was Shaffer “Ne-Yo” Smith, who previously teamed up with Milian on the Poli Paul-produced “I’m Sorry” and “Peep Show.”

Meanwhile, Megan Rochell landed “The One You Need” and it was the lead single of her shelved debut album “You, Me and The Radio.”

After she parted ways with Island Def Jam Recordings, Rochell signed with Rodney Jerkins’ label Darkchild Records. We haven’t heard anything ever since!

Christina Milian joins forces with Carsten “Soulshock” Schack for new album

Recent songwriting and production credits by Carsten Shack – better known as Soulshock – are “International Love” by Pitbull featuring Chris Brown [Sony Music Entertainment / J Records] and “Try with Me” by Nicole Scherzinger [Universal Music Group / Interscope Records].

The Danish hitmaker also confirmed placements on the next albums by Enrique Iglesias [Universal Music Group / Republic Records] and Melanie Amaro [Sony Music Entertainment / Syco Music / Epic Records].

Meanwhile, the new collection by Christina Milian serves as the follow-up to 2006’s “So Amazin’.” That release debuted at number eleven on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart and delivered the Jazmine Sullivan-penned hit single “Say I.”
